I was talking to one of my girlfriends a couple of weeks ago who is a pre-school teacher. The school she works for is a multi-handicapped center and she was telling me how some of her autistic children don't take naps but they disturb the other children who do during nap time. I owed her big time for all of the free babysitting she gives me so I made her a quiet book for her children to play with during nap time. This was a really fun project because I like tedious things but I don't think I'll ever do one to sell or maybe ever again unless it's for my own children because it takes FOOORRREEEVVVEEERRR! (say like "squints" from the movie the sandlot)
When I googled "quiet books" to get some ideas for pages I came across a whole blog land of quiet book creators! There are tons of good ideas out there and lots of good tutorials. This Blog was the one I liked the best. I had my friend over at Slag's Rags do the monogram on the front and the words on each page were supposed to be done in sharpie marker but my mom said NO WAY and volunteered to embroider all of them on each page by HAND! WHOA! It took her FOOORREEEVVEERR too but looks sooo much better. Thanks Mom!!
AND I can't forget to mention that all of the felt used in this book was so generously donated to me by some nice ladies here in the Birmingham area! I found a website called Freecycle.org where you can put up a post about something you're looking for and people will respond to GIVE you what you're looking for. Did I mention it's FREE!? Cool huh? There are some really generous people around here! Thank you all again!
And without further adieu.....
